![]() My thanks to Casemate, Kagero, and IPMS/USA for the chance to review this great book. If you have any of their previous books in the Super Drawings in 3D series, you know how great a value this book is. This being the sixtieth volume, they have managed to cover quite a few ships. The Type XXI submarine was the most influential design in submarine construction during the Second World War and, at the time of its commissioning. If you fancy having a go at the Revell U-2540 with the cut-away interior, the 3D interior illustrations in this book are essential. You get angles you can’t really see in other references and they are in full color. ![]() This consider the Kagero Super Drawings in 3D essential reference for model building. Modeler’s interested in that outlier scale, 1/700 can still find the Skywave kit (W-19) that provides both the Type XXI and the Type XXIII in one box. 1/350 scale has kits from Seawolf (WF-01) in resin Blue Water Navy (35032) in resin, and from Dragon (1008) in injected plastic. Revell in 1/144 scale has kitted the U-2540 with a cut-away interior (5078), a U-2518 (5081) and the resurrected Willhelm Bauer (5072). Combat Models makes a 1/72 vacuform kit (72-70) and Amodel produced a 1/200 scale resin kit (AM-5000). Model-wise you have plenty of choices for the original Type XXI, and plenty more choices for its descendants.
